WAR OF
THE WORLDS (1953/Paramount) 85 Minutes 16mm Excellent Dupe
Serious, really serious
big-time monster movie. Really. Seriously. If you have a crowd of unruly
brats that you need to not only silence, but wreck revenge upon, this
is the ticket. Don't warn them. Turn the sound way, way up, and then leave
them alone. Just the trauma of the sound of those unforgettable death
rays is enough to scar them for life. Just ask your friends. Has a slightly
repugnant ending for those atheist souls amongst you, as all George Pal
films do. Directed by Byron Haskin; Produced by George Pal; Screenplay
by BarrĄ Lyndon; Space Art by Chesley Bonestell; Special Effects by Gordon
Jennings, Wallace Kelley, Paul Lerpae, Ivyl Burns, Jan Domela & Irmin
Roberts; Electrical Effects by Kenneth Strickfaden (?); Make Up by Wally
Westmore; Music by Leith Stevens. From the novel by H.G. Wells. Starring
Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, Les Tremayne, Bob Cornthwaite, Paul Frees, Jack
Kruschen, Paul Birch, Charles Gemora, Carolyn Jones, Narrated by Cedric
Hardwicke.
