THE THING
(1951/Winchester Pictures/RKO.) 87 Minutes Black & White. 16mm Excellent
Dupe in Excellent Shape. Long Version.
Go figure the human
kid. This is about as good as they get, but it is lost on a kid. The talk,
they snooze, they get kicked out of the theater. They go play outside.
The human mind is a curious thing. Maybe it is natures way of providing
a little space of their own to adults. Anyway, this is carrot monster
rampage. A well done scare from a major Hollywood director (Howard Hawks)
with a professionally-crafted Hollywood love subplot. Directed by Christian
Nyby; Produced by Howard Hawks; Screenplay by Charles Lederer; Special
Effects by Donald Steward; Music by Dimitri Tiomkin. From "Who Goes There?"
by Don A. Stuart (John W. Campbell Jnr.). Starring Kenneth Tobey, Margaret
Sheridan, Robert Cornthwaite, Douglas Spencer, James Young, Dewey Martin,
Robert Nichols, William Self, Eduard Franz, Sally Creighton, James Arness,
Paul Frees, George Fenneman, John Dierkes, Tom Steele.
